Negociant
French term for for "trader". But outside Bordeaux i.e.
Champagne or Burgundy, the negociant's activities goes far beyond
the wine trading. He often buys and assembles, including ageing in
barrel if desired, the produce of
smaller growers and winemakers. The wine is then bottled and sold
under the negociant's own
