Tasting notes on Vieux Chateau Certan
- Pomerol |
1985 Vieux Chateau Certan - Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
Opened one hour, not decanted.
Light and luminous hue, recalling the color of mature Burgundies.
Splendid tertiary flavours: mild tobacco, dried leaves, amber, ripe
fruit. The structure of 1985 Vieux Chateau Certan is smooth and
perfectly
integrated. Delicate liquorice and sandalwood flavours. Average
depth but great balance. 1985 Vieux Chateau Certan is a beautiful mature wine,
very expressive and probably very slightly beyond its peak, but with
such a elegant style. 90/100. |

2001 Vieux Chateau Certan - Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
2001 Vieux Chateau Certan : Light garnet.
Creamy
nose well supported by flavours of red fruit - raspberry, cherry and cocoa. The mouth of 2001 Vieux Chateau Certan develops gradually to a beautiful
ripe fruit, well
balanced and
fresh. 2001 Vieux Chateau Certan Lacks a bit of
fat and density. It's smooth
texture seems somewhat atypical to the usual style of the appellation. 87/100

2004 Vieux Chateau Certan - Pomerol, Bordeaux, France
06/2007 - As with Léoville Las Cases, one is overwhelmed by the
superb, pure fruit, enhanced by fragrant Virginia tobacco aromas.
The bouquet is well and truly many-faceted, making this wine
somewhat mysterious and difficult to pin down. The palate is
altogether impressive, with magnificent balance and finesse. The
structure is tight, but there is no aggressiveness. Vieux Chateau
Certan is obviously extremely well-made and I see a great future
ahead for it.
